As the residents, we are the designers, developers, and caretakers of our community. Residents share community work and we gather in regular meetings to shape our direction and growth. We are committed to a consensus decision-making process. We strive to create an atmosphere of cooperation and goodwill where everyone is willing to lend a helping hand. We choose to develop relationships with each other based on mutual respect, trust, and honest communication. We agree to explore and to resolve, to the best of our ability, the inevitable conflicts and misunderstandings that occur between people living in community.
We consider ourselves stewards of our land and we use our common areas and possessions with care and consideration for each other. We are committed to reducing consumption and conserving natural resources so whenever it’s practical we share goods and resources, such as tools, transportation, labor, bulk goods, and community meals. The layout of our building(s) enables us to balance privacy and interaction. Furthermore, our location within city neighborhoods gives us access to public transportation, shopping, schools, businesses, and social activities.
The physical design of our community maximizes our open, green space and provides desirable, efficient, and economical living spaces for approximately 8 individuals. Our extensive shared common spaces include our kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry, storage, wood shop, wood storage shed, bike shelter, garden shed, and garden. We will include other spaces and amenities as we are able.
We accept each person as a unique individual and value the strength of diverse perspectives, backgrounds, experience, and levels of ability. We treat every person in the community with courtesy and respect. Children are valued as full members and are included in the daily life of the community. We encourage gatherings to celebrate events such as birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. We support and are sensitive to members' individual needs and preferences for connection and relationship, and for privacy and solitude. We try to accommodate dietary considerations of our members at our common meals. Our members manage their pets' activities so they are good neighbors, too.
We are involved with our neighbors and the surrounding community, and we create opportunities to contribute to their well-being. We choose to be a positive force in the life of the city, revitalizing the neighborhood in which we have chosen to create our community, and creating a safe environment for ourselves, our children, and future generations.
